Environmental Compliance Approvals

By law, a business must have an environmental approval or registration from the Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks if it:

•Releases pollutants into the air, land or water, or

• Stores, transports or disposes of waste

An environmental approval or registration sets out rules of operation for these activities that are intended to protect the natural environment and are legally enforceable.

CLASS ENVIRONMENTAL ASSESSMENTS FOR MUNICIPAL INFRASTRUCTURE

The Environmental Assessment (EA) process ensures that governments and public bodies consider potential environmental effects before an infrastructure project begins.

The Municipal Engineers Association is the proponent responsible for the Municipal Class Environmental Assessment process for Municipal Public works.

In October 2015, the Municipal Class Environmental Assessment was amended to include additional references to the Clean Water Act and Source Protection Plans (see Municipal Class EA Manual – Section A.2.10 – Relationship of Projects within the Class EA to Other Legislation).
